Right....
I haven't posted anything here in more than a year, I think, so perhaps it's time to write another journal.
I actually wanted to wait with that until I might have some art to post as well, but since I can't seem to finish anything right now (although I do have a lot of stuff I actually meant to finish by now), and I got tagged and didn't want to ignore it, so here we go.

Rules:
1 - You must post these rules (VERY Important )
2 - Each person must post 10 things about themselves on their journal.
3 - Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create ten new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4 - You have to choose 10 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
5 - Go to their pages and tell them you have tagged her/him.
6 - No tag backs
7 - No crap in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you're reading this." You legitimately (AKA, really, truly with all honesty) have to tag 10 people.

10 things about myself:

1. I usually have a lot of ideas of pictures I want to draw, but I never manage to actually start them.
2. I can spend an entire day watching a single TV-series nonstop. Or even more than just one day.
3. I love reading. And I read a lot.
4. I like knitting. Although I can't seem to get to do it at the moment...
5. I watch my favourite movies so often that I know most of them by heart.
6. I am about equally interested in science (specifically, molecular biology) and art, so you can get me as excited with animated molecular structures as with a beautiful picture.
7. I prefer pencils to brushes.
8. I like sewing historical dresses. Whether I can actually wear them somewhere or not.
9. I love playing Fantasy-RPGs. Both on the computer and as pen-and-paper.
10. I like chocolate. (And I couldn't think of anything else to write here.)

:iconelveanna:'s questions:

1. Have you ever had a phase where you didn't do art at all, and if yes, what brought you back? Not because of a block or lack of time, rather frustration or losing interest.
No, not really. I started drawing some years ago, and of course there where times when I did it less and times when I had more time for art. But I never really stopped completely.

2. How did you find out about deviantart?
I first found dA when I was looking for pictures of some artist I really liked (I don't remember who that was) and stumbled over their dA-page. Then I found out that a friend of mine was on dA, too, so I joined.

3. To what extent do you use references?
That depends on what it is I am drawing. I usually manage poses, clothes and a lot of other stuff without references, but I like to use them for details (e. g. I never manage to remember how exactly a horse's leg will look like in a specific position), or for inspiraton (again, mostly details like, "how can I make a robe look more interesting"). But I usually don't copy anything exactly.

4. Have you ever tried doing something entirely out of your comfort zone (artistically)?
No. I'd like to write more, but since I've never really tried anything like that, there's not much to write.

5. What is your opinion on Modern Art (sorry, really big question, but I'm genuinely interested)?
That depends on what you define as Modern Art. I can't really relate to most (completely) abstract art, but some other modern stuff is really great. I do prefer realism, so much Modern Art is not really what I like.

6. Has a single experience in your life changed you as an artist?
Not really. As with question 4, I don't really know anything to write in here...

7. How much does being an artist define you in your own opinion?
Actually, I'm not really sure. I do know that I see drawings and paintings of others differently since I've started to draw myself. But apart from that, I don't think that it has much impact.

8. Do you think that creativity can be forced and that it should be?
I think creativity can be encouraged (or the opposite, it can be suppressed), but it can't be forced, and it shouldn't, either. For example, I tend to be much less creative when I've got a lot of other stuff on my head, so I can't concentrate on what I want to do (creatively), but when I don't have to think about anything else, it's easier to come up with something creative. But when I've got a phase when I'm not creative, I can't come up with anything, no matter how hard I try.

9. Do you feel that your personal style is still evolving or at a point where you would like to keep it the way it currently is?
I think that my style is still changing, but much less than it did when I first started drawing. My first attempts were mostly manga-style, and since than I've tried to get closer to a more realistic style.

10. What things have you tried (medium, style, motivation, etc.) that failed you or that you couldn't warm to?
I'm not really sure about that. I have tried a lot of things (pencil, watercolours, digital, some calligraphy,...), and while I don't like all of them the same, I didn't find anything that I really didn't like. My favourite medium is definitely pencil, but I like the rest, too.

At this point, I should probably tag ten people and give them ten questions, but I can't think of ten people to tag (apart from those who've already been tagged by Elveanna), and I can't think of ten questions that would be interesting (I could write something like "What was the last thing you ate?", but I don't think anybody would be interested in that), so I'll just leave it at that.

Hi Kimni,
Thanks for your time and input in critiquing my headly painting. I'm glad you liked it and agree with what you said concerning lighting, it is something I am struggling with. It's hard to take an image from your imagination and get it all looking natural on paper or canvas but that's what art is all about, right?

It was quite interesting, because abstract art is not what I usually think about... :D
